Danny Simpson is reportedly allowed to leave Leicester City in the January transfer window after managing just two Premier League appearances this season – and Leeds United have to consider a move.

The Mirror claimed that 31-year-old Simpson will be allowed to leave in January as his contract at the King Power expires at the end of the season. If the Foxes want to bring in some money for the defender, he has to be sold in January.

Simpson only managed his first Premier League appearance of the season in November, as a 20-minute substitute against Cardiff City – having previously failed to make the matchday 18 for the entire campaign.

His only other appearance came in the 1-1 draw against Claudio Ranieri’s Fulham, the manager whom he played under during Leicester’s unbelievable Premier League triumph in 2015-16.

The former Manchester United defender has huge knowledge of the Premier League, with 209 top-flight appearances to his name. He also boasts Championship promotion experience, having helped Sunderland, Newcastle and QPR gain promotion.

Leeds are in desperate need of additions in defence, especially at right-back. Luke Ayling, Gaetano Berardi and Stuart Dallas are all currently injured, which saw teenager Jamie Shackleton play against QPR on Saturday at right-back.

Simpson will be allowed to leave on the cheap with Leicester seemingly desperate to get rid of him, and it should convince Leeds to solve their right-back dilemma by bringing in the experienced full-back.

A move that would benefit all parties, Leeds need a player of Simpson’s know how if they are to maintain their promotion hunt. A must-buy for the Whites in January.
