Should Leeds consider bringing Birmingham ace Lukas Jutkiewicz to Elland Road this summer?

Birmingham City striker Lukas Jutkiewicz has done well, so perhaps he should be a player that Leeds United target this summer.

One of the main criticisms of Leeds United this season has been their lack of depth up front that has meant that when Chris Wood has been off the boil – which has not been often this term in fairness to the New Zealander – the Whites have had no real plan B to turn to.

Some fans will suggest that Marcus Antonsson and Kemar Roofe should have been given more chances to provide support, but Garry Monk would still be wise to look to sign quality cover for Wood during the summer to give them a greater chance of replicating much of what they have achieved this year.

One player who may be a great option for Leeds to pursue as Wood’s understudy given his experience in the Championship is Birmingham City striker Lukas Jutkiewicz.

The Blues may be dangerously close to falling out of the second tier, but a number of their players showed exactly how good they could be when Gary Rowett was in charge, and Jutkiewicz was arguably in fact, their brightest squad member during Gianfranco Zola’s ill-fated tenure at St Andrew’s.

He has reached double figures for goals this term, and given Birmingham’s current position in the table, he may perhaps jump at the chance to join the Whites even if Harry Redknapp’s men stay up.

If Leeds manage to hold onto Wood this summer – which will surely be difficult given his form – they do not necessarily need another marquee forward but rather a better cluster of players who Monk can turn to if the current talisman is enduring a frustrating afternoon.

And while Jutkiewicz may not perhaps be the kind of signing that captures the imagination of the Elland Road faithful, his record this term would suggest that he would certainly add some much-needed depth in that area of the pitch.
