Leeds United didnt sign a striker in January, but that isn’t to say they don’t need one.
Everybody is talking about Leeds United’s botched move for Dan James on deadline day.
But not many are asking why Leeds weren’t in the market for a striker as they plot a long-awaited Premier League return under Marcelo Bielsa.
Bielsa only has Kemar Roofe as far as reliable centre-forward options go, with Patrick Bamford having only managed 29 minutes of Championship football since August.
If Roofe suffers a dip in form, which he might from now until the end of the season, then it could have a disastrous effect on United’s season.
Leeds do need another number nine and although the January transfer window is closed, they can still sign free agents – and Lacina Traore would be a cracking one.
The 28-year-old Ivorian hitman is without a club at the moment and the Whites should consider him.
Traore, who has played for Anzhi Makhachkala, CSKA Moscow and Monaco, is 6’8 tall [Transfermarkt] and could clearly give Leeds something they don’t have in attack: height.
Bielsa needs a Plan B. There will be times when United need something else, what a curveball Traore could be.
He would be an absolute nuisance to defend against, and Leeds, to be honest, don’t have enough of them.
