The former Swansea City man is a free agent this summer and could offer additional strength in depth at Leeds United.

Leeds United have one of the best centre-back pairings in the Championship in the form of Pontus Jansson and Kyle Bartley, but even if the latter turns his loan move into a permanent stay this summer, the Whites could still do with defensive reinforcements if they return to the top flight.

Liam Cooper is an able deputy but beyond those three Leeds have very little cover, especially if Luke Ayling continues to impress at right-back.

For that reason, Whites manager Garry Monk may be thinking long and hard about potential defensive signings this summer, with one player he knows very well available on a free transfer.

That player is former Swansea City defender Chico Flores, with whom Monk has an eventful past.

According to a report from the Daily Mail back in January 2014, Flores and Monk were involved in a training ground bust-up that saw the former allegedly pick up a brick.

When Monk took over as manager at the Liberty Stadium, the altercation appeared to spell the end for the Spaniard, but in fact he became a vital player under his former teammate, to such an extent that the now-Leeds boss bemoaned his exit when he followed Michael Laudrup to Qatar.

Speaking to the South Wales Evening Post in August 2014, Monk said, “I wasn’t really expecting Chico to go.

“I am a little bit disappointed but I can’t grumble with Chico at all. He has been magnificent with me since I took over. He did very well for me.

“He was a very good trainer and a very good player.”

With that in mind, what chance Monk offering Flores the chance to reunite at Leeds with the latter looking for a new club this summer?

Still only 29, the Spaniard has plenty of Premier League experience, Monk knows him well and he would offer additional quality in Leeds’ back-line.

Considering he will not cost a penny, this is one deal that will appeal to the Leeds hierarchy as well as the manager who put their problems behind them to earn those “magnificent” performances.
