Should Leeds attempt to bring Klich’s former teammate Mokotjo to Elland Road this summer?

The two midfielders excelled alongside each other but Leeds United already have a number of options in that area.

In a recent interview with twentefans.nl, new Leeds United signing Mateusz Klich explained how much he would miss his former FC Twente teammates, with Kamohelo Mokotjo the only player to be referenced by name.

The two friends excelled alongside each other last season, with Mokotjo’s ability both in a holding role and slightly further forward allowing Klich to do his best work in the final third where he scored six goals and set up four more.

While Leeds have options in the form of Liam Bridcutt, Eunan O’Kane and Ronaldo Vieira, only the latter avoided criticism last season, with the more experienced pair both coming under scrutiny for a lack of impact.

Brdidcutt in particular failed to play the captain’s role over the final few months of the campaign and it would be no surprise if new Leeds manager Thomas Christiansen looked to add more steal to a key area of his team.

Mokotjo possesses that in abundance, and his experience playing with Klich would be another reason to make a move for a player who only has one year remaining on his current contract.

While Vieira is only going to get better the older and more experienced he gets, the teenager cannot be expected to do everything on his own, and if doubts remain over Bridcutt and O’Kane, Mokotjo is one possible alternative.

Strength in depth will be key for Leeds as they push for promotion next season and, at 26, the South Africa international is reaching his peak.

With the ability to both score and create on occasions, Klich’s former teammate and current friend could be an unlikely solution to another Leeds’ problem.

Christiansen will have his own ideas, but having name-checked the midfielder, Klich would surely love to see him rock up at Elland Road in due course.
