Kemar Roofe scored the club’s goal against Preston, and this was his 13th strike this season.
Leeds are in desperate form, but it wasn’t always this bad.
Going back to the early brighter moments this season under Thomas Christiansen, they came with Roofe deployed as a striker.
One of these was the win over Nottingham Forest, where he led the line and scored an excellent header in a 2-0 away win.
Pierre-Michel Lasogga joined a few days later, and Roofe found himself deployed back on the wing.
He has still managed to score regularly, but he has games where he drifts in and out too. This is frustrating for fans, but at least there are times where he produces.
Roofe told LUTV earlier this season: “When I was a kid, I always trained as a striker and gradually I moved out out, but then at Oxford I was upfront and scored my goals, and hopefully I can continue to play upfront for Leeds.”
Leeds gave up on him in the position too easily, and he isn’t a player Paul Heckingbottom has considered as a striker.
Giving Roofe a shot at leading the line between now and the end of the season may yet turn out to be their best option.
