Sunderland lost 2-0 at Middlesbrough on Saturday afternoon.

Sunderland were dumped out of the FA Cup in the Third Round on Saturday afternoon, as they lost 2-0 away at local rivals Middlesbrough.
The Black Cats went into the game having lost 1-0 at home to Barnsley on New Year’s Day, and were looking for a response as they made the short trip to the Riverside Stadium.
However, Chris Coleman’s men were undone in the first half, as Rudy Gestede put Boro in front, before Martin Braithwaite capitalised on terrible goalkeeping from Jason Steele to make it 2-0.

Steele failed to deal with a corner and flapped the ball back into the box, with Braithwaite ultimately benefiting with a close-range finish.
Braithwaite’s goal summed up Steele’s time at Sunderland, as the goalkeeper has failed to impress since making a summer move from Blackburn Rovers, with Simon Grayson moving to sign him as a replacement for Jordan Pickford.
Steele, 27, has been in and out of the team this season, making 12 appearances in all competitions, and he surely didn’t do much to impress manager Chris Coleman on Saturday afternoon.

Fans tore into Steele during and after Saturday’s game, with many simply perplexed as to just why Sunderland decided to pay money for him over the summer, suggesting Blackburn pulled off a remarkable deal.
Others suggested that Steele is the worst goalkeeper to ever play for Sunderland, and called for Coleman to stop starting him between the sticks and bring in a new goalkeeper in his place.
