Michael Dawson has claimed that Ralf Rangnick ‘should have done his homework’ after he admitted that he wasn’t aware of the Leeds United and Manchester United rivalry.

The former defender added that he lives in the area and the Leeds-Man United game is ‘massive’, as he told Sky Sports News (19/02/22 at 12:55 pm).

Marcelo Bielsa’s side will welcome their bitter rivals to Elland Road in a few hours time in what is set to be a mouthwatering contest.

One thing is for sure, there will be a hostile atmosphere in Yorkshire and Rangnick, who is in interim charge at Old Trafford, will feel the heat from the touchline.

Nonetheless, when Soccer Saturday presenter, Jeff Stelling, relayed what Rangnick said about Leeds, Yorkshire-born Dawson issued this response.

“Ralf Rangnick said that he wasn’t aware of the rivalry,” said Stelling. “But Marcelo Bielsa is certainly aware of it. He said that ‘this is a classic game which is very motivating’. Will that bring the best out of Leeds?”

Dawson responded: “Ralf Rangnick should have done his homework before he came out and said that.

“The rivalry is massive. I live in the area. I see Marcelo Bielsa walking around. The Leeds fans will turn up and you never know what you are going to get with Leeds.”

Leeds may have dropped into England’s lower leagues for well over a decade, which resulted in very few meetings between the two.

But, during their time away, it just turned up the heat in the kitchen by a few notches.

Bielsa and his players may have produced indifferent performances of late, but one thing is for sure, their better side will be on show in a few hours time.

It wouldn’t be a surprise if there is a fair few goals in this game because the Whites know only one way to play.
