Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast, Ian Holloway has been waxing-lyrical about Callum Wilson.
The Newcastle striker set up a goal in incredibly unselfish fashion at the World Cup on Monday and in light of Harry Kane’s injury, Holloway believes that the 30-year-old should start against the USA on Friday.
Not only did Holloway laud Wilson’s recent form, he hailed his mentality, stating that he’d done so well to recover from all of his injury issues, claiming that his career should be over based on the number of problems he’s had.

Holloway wants Wilson to start
The former Blackpool manager spoke highly of the Newcastle star.
“Give it to Callum Wilson, a bloke who has been bang in form,” Holloway said.
“Honestly, with all he’s been through. The injuries he’s had, he should have been finished, well done to him, it is a joy to see it. Look at him.”
Resilient
Holloway is absolutely right, Wilson has had enough setbacks in his career to finish him off.
Two cruciate ligament ruptures, persistent hamstring issues and long-term calf problems would be enough to make any striker call it a day at the top level – especially a striker who relies on pace and movement.
However, Wilson isn’t like everyone else. He’s got such a strong attitude and mentality, and while all of these roadblocks have been put in his way, he’s smashed through them all.
Now, he’s making his mark on the world’s biggest stage, and he absolutely deserves the chance to start for England at the World Cup.
Wilson is one of the most inspirational footballers around at the moment, and he embodies the idea that hard-work and perseverance can help anyone achieve their dreams.
