Glasgow Rangers youngster Glenn Middleton caught the eye on international duty, so should he be rewarded upon his return to Ibrox?

Of all the deals that Rangers pulled off during the January transfer window, it was arguably the signing of Glenn Middleton from Norwich City that was the most intriguing with the youngster heading straight into the development side with the intention of, one day, pushing into the first-team.

Middleton has been extremely impressive since arriving at Ibrox, so it certainly appears that Rangers may have an inspired signing on their hands if he continues to develop at his current rate.

Rangers manager Graeme Murty is seen during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Kilmarnock at Ibrox Stadium on March 17, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

And he demonstrated his quality during this international break having been a part of the Scotland under-19 squad that took on the Netherlands and Norway.

It was an agonising break for the Scots as they were beaten 5-4 by the latter having been 4-2 up with less than 10 minutes to go. But while the result was a huge disappointment, the 18-year-old shone through, scoring twice during Scotland’s initial fightback.

That display cannot have escaped Graeme Murty’s attention, so perhaps when he considers his lineup for the Gers’ trip to Motherwell this weekend, he will consider rewarding the teenager with a spot on the bench against Well.

Rangers go into the game off the back of two defeats which have opened the door for Aberdeen to set up a race for second, so while the pressure is definitely on, Murty should consider some changes to ensure that it does not become three losses on the spin.

Middleton may not be ready to start, but including him on the bench seems like a sensible move. He is a real talent that will currently be high on confidence – and if the opportunity presents itself, he may be ready to prove to the Gers supporters yet to see him in action just why the club signed him in January.

If Rangers boast a commanding lead at any stage on Saturday, Murty should give him a chance to show what he can do in the first-team as he is certainly answering every question being asked of him so far.
