Arsenal fans have been left annoyed after Aston Villa’s Tyrone Mings was selected by Gareth Southgate as one of England’s defenders over Ben White.
Even though White has been in fine form at Arsenal this season, the likes of Mings, who was recently dropped by Villa, were selected instead.
There weren’t many changes to England’s backline, despite the likes of Mings, Conor Coady and Harry Maguire all being out of form.
Therefore, with White helping turn Arsenal’s ship around in recent games, it’s understandable why their supporters will be frustrated.
It has to be questioned how a captain – Mings – of his club side can get dropped for a team on a four-game losing streak, yet get picked for his country.
There’s nothing more someone like White can do other than continue to put in strong performances at the Emirates Stadium.
This is the last international break for a number of months, so things could be a lot more different in 2022.
Whilst White missed out on a call, Aaron Ramsdale, who has been one of the form keepers of the division, was called up, alongside Bukayo Saka.
It also meant that Emile Smith Rowe missed out, despite his recent scoring run and string of impressive performances.
The only positive the Arsenal faithful can take from this is that White isn’t going out on national duty and he will rest up during these coming weeks.
