According to ESPN FC, Everton are interested in Divock Origi and have made tentative checks on the availability of the Liverpool striker for the January transfer window.

Origi is 23 years of age and is a Belgium international, and one can understand Everton’s reported interest in the youngster.

However, it should be a cause for concern for Dominic Calvert-Lewin and his long-term future at the Merseyside outfit.

Calvert-Lewin is 21 years of age, and while the forward is not ready to lead the line for Everton, the arrival of Origi would put him further down the pecking order or at least make it harder for him to get playing time.

Cenk Tosun and Oumar Niasse are the other recognised centre-forwards in the Everton squad, while Richarlison and Theo Walcott can operate as strikers.

Calvert-Lewin – who is valued at €34.9 million (£30.7m) by the CIES Football Observatory – has played 330 minutes of Premier League football so far this season, according to WhoScored, but a return of just one goal means that he has to do more.

The England Under-21 international forward – who earns £12,000 per week as salary, according to Spotrac.com – can only get better if he gets regular playing time, which he won’t if Origi joins in January.
