The competition up front at Everton is rife following the signing of Cenk Tosun.
Everton striker Dom Calvert-Lewin will be wondering what he has to do to earn a regular spot in Sam Allardyce’s starting line-up after being left on the bench for the last five Premier League matches.
The 20-year-old began the 2017-18 season in excellent form, almost considered Everton’s first-choice striker following the sale of Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United.
He scored seven goals before the turn of the year, but the January signing of Cenk Tosun has seen the Toffees youngster fall down the pecking order under Sam Allardyce. He also scored when coming off the bench against Arsenal this month.
The recent form of Oumar Niasse has also seen the former Sheffield United striker struggle for regular game time, clocking up just 73 minutes of Premier League football in 2018.
It was reported in the aftermath of the January transfer window by Daily Mail journalist Dom King that Calvert-Lewin had been the subject of loan approaches from both West Ham United and Huddersfield Town.
However, they were both instantly rejected but surely the Englishman will be wondering what if he had been allowed to join the Hammers or indeed David Wagner’s Terriers, as he struggles for game time.
With Allardyce likely to overlook Calvert-Lewin for the second half of the season as Niasse impressed and Tosun’s huge £27million transfer fee needing to be considered well-spent, a January loan may have been something Calvert-Lewin would have wanted.
