Southampton are keen on Barcelona striker Paco Alcacer but should Everton renew their own interest?

Paco Alcacer of FC Barcelona celebrates scoring the opening goal during the La Liga match between Barcelona and Athletic Club at Camp Nou on March 18, 2018 in Barcelona, Spain.

Southampton have been linked with a somewhat surprising move for Barcelona’s Paco Alcacer by the Mirror if they stay in the Premier League.

The Saints are said to have been interested in Alcacer for some time, with the striker having struggled for game time since a 2016 transfer to Barca from Valencia.

Who else could join the race?

Everton are in the market for a new number nine, as reported by the Sun recently with the newspaper linking the Toffees with a move for Bournemouth star Callum Wilson.

Yet back in December the Merseyside club were actually linked with a move for Alcacer themselves, with Spanish publication Don Balon claiming they wanted to partner the 24-year-old with fellow countryman Sandro Ramirez.

Sandro has of course since joined Sevilla on loan but is set to return to Goodison Park over the summer, while Cenk Tosun was also signed from Besiktas during the January transfer window.

However, if the Premier League side are in the market for a new forward then perhaps a move for Alcacer – who has scored 14 goals in 45 matches since a switch to the Camp Nou despite inconsistent game time – would not be such a bad decision.
