Everton have been said to be interested in Sunderland defender Lamine Kone for a considerable amount of time.

According to the Daily Mail, Burnley are stepping up their interest in Sunderland defender Lamine Kone – and that could force Everton to act, if they still want the commanding centre-back.

Everton were linked with Kone strongly last summer, and The Sun claimed that they retained an interest in January.

Kone’s form at Sunderland dipped hugely last campaign, with the defender often looking under-motivated.

But his showings in his first season in English football, proved that he was a very solid option at Premier League level.

Everton have already brought in Michael Keane this summer, but more defensive additions could be on the radar for Ronald Koeman.

The Toffees have an ageing backline, and Kone’s arrival at Goodison Park would help to freshen up Koeman’s defence.

Burnley’s interest leaves Everton needing to decide whether to bid for Kone, though. As if they hesitate for much longer, they could risk missing out.
