Should Everton revive interest in Charlton’s £5m-rated ace Ezri Konsa?

Everton were linked with a move for Charlton Athletic youngster Ezri Konsa in January, but decided against pursuing a deal.

According to a recent report from the Liverpool Echo, Everton are keen to bolster their under-23 options this summer, with centre-back proving to be one of the positions that they are looking to address.

The Echo added that Charlton’s Ezri Konsa was a player that they had a look at in January, but their £5 million asking price was enough to deter the Toffees from making a move for the 20-year-old.

But perhaps, Everton should consider looking to reopen negotiations at the end of the season and should be prepared to meet Konsa’s asking price if the Addicks are unwilling to budge.

Konsa is an extremely talented prospect and already boasts a lot of experience, having made nearly 80 appearances for Charlton’s first-team in all competitions, so he may find adapting to life at Goodison Park much easier than other youngsters that arrive from elsewhere.

Everton’s defence needs refreshing

If Konsa is targeted, it is likely that he will start his time on Merseyside in David Unsworth’s under-23s, but perhaps it may not be too long before he is pushing for a chance in the first-team.

No other team in the top-half of the Premier League has brought up its half-century of goals conceded this season, while even bottom side West Brom have had to pick the ball out of the back of the net on fewer occasions in the league this term.

Konsa may not be the answer to those issues yet, but the likes of Ashley Williams and Phil Jagielka are coming towards the end of their Premier League careers and need replacing sooner or later.

The Charlton starlet appears to have bags of potential, and £5 million in today’s game could quickly prove to be a huge bargain.
