Everton are reportedly interested in signing Alfie Mawson from Swansea City, but face plenty of competition from their Premier League rivals.

The Mirror reports that West Ham, Watford and Leicester all want the 24-year-old, while the Guardian recently suggested that Tottenham and Southampton are also interested in the centre-back who Swansea will want £20 million for during the coming months.

With so much competition, Everton perhaps need to consider ways that they can give themselves the edge in the race without paying the kind of fee that will see Mawson put under an enormous amount of pressure before he has even kicked a ball for the Toffees.
Perhaps therefore, Everton should consider offering Swansea a swap deal that would lower the price for Mawson, see the Swans bag themselves a club legend and allow the Toffees to get one of their struggling players off their books ahead of next season.

Ashley Williams has endured a very difficult year. The 33-year-old – who was signed for £12 million, according to BBC Sport – has come in for a lot of criticism throughout the campaign and it would be little surprise if the Everton fans were urging the club to offload the defender this summer.
His days as a Premier League stalwart appear to be behind him, but he could be exactly the kind of player that Swansea need as they look to get themselves out of the Championship at the first attempt, especially as he knows the club like the back of his hand having made over 350 appearances for the Swans in all competitions.
Swansea must feel that losing Mawson is almost inevitable, so perhaps pursuing a swap deal involving the two defenders could represent the ideal outcome for them as it would see the void filled immediately.
Everton meanwhile, would be able to get a key target through the door without paying a ridiculous fee. It appears to be a fantastic way for the two clubs to walk away from the negotiating table feeling extremely pleased with the business they have done.
