Everton come up against Nabil Fekir in the Europa League tonight.
Everton host Lyon in the Europa League tonight with the intention of beating the Ligue 1 side and getting their season back on track.
But victory isn’t a foregone conclusion for an Everton side who sit bottom of Group E after losing one and drawing one of their first two games in the competition.
One man who Ronald Koeman’s side need to keep a very close eye on is Nabil Fekir, the attacking midfielder who has seven goals in nine Ligue 1 games this season.
He is one of Europe’s most in-form number 10s and you wonder if an excellent performance at Goodison Park would make Koeman renew an interest in a player who, according to The Liverpool Echo, was on the radar of his predecessor Roberto Martinez in May 2015, prior to his dismissal.
The Toffees spent £45 million on Gylfi Sigurdsson in the summer but his early struggles, coupled with the doubt over Ross Barkley’s long-term future on Merseyside, could force Everton back into the market for a like-minded player.
And Fekir, valued at around £17.9 million according to Transfermarkt, might be a great option.
Not only does the 24-year-old attacker has seven goals domestically, but the France international has also four assists in Ligue 1 and has created 21 chances for his team-mates in the league this season.
On this form it seems only a matter of time before he gets a big move – and if he impresses against Everton then that should give Koeman the impetus needed to join the queue come January.
