Everton went in for Manchester United’s Rojo on deadline day, but failed to get the deal done.
United were reluctant to let Rojo go for the price Everton were willing to pay, and the Times claim that the Argentine was angry with the Red Devils.
Rojo was reportedly keen to move to Everton, and it seemed that his chance had gone.
However, with Everton struggling at the back this term, Rojo could prove a solution.
The 29-year-old has slipped even further down the pecking order at United this term, following Axel Tuanzebe’s emergence.
Rojo has played just three times for United across all competitions, and if Everton did make a move now, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side would surely listen.
The £16 million defender (BBC Sport) may not be the most high profile signing for Everton, but he could be a good solution to what has been a problem for them at centre-back this term.
Yerry Mina has actually stepped in performed fairly well, but Michael Keane’s form has dipped without Kurt Zouma alongside him.
The issue for Everton is there is a real lack of competition, with Mason Holgate their only other recognised central defender.
Rojo’s arrival at Everton would at least start to put some pressure on the Toffees existing squad, and that could spark an increase in performance levels.
Rojo has proven himself to be a relatively solid option when called upon by United, even if he does have a tendency to dive into challenges, and his experience could be key.
Silva’s men have badly disappointed so far, with Everton sitting in the relegation zone.
And although Rojo’s signing is unlikely to solve all of Everton’s problems at once, he could still prove to be a smart addition to their team.
