Everton were interested in Newcastle United stopper Tim Krul last year, and still want to sign a goalkeeper.

According to the Chronicle, Newcastle United are set to offload Tim Krul this summer.

Krul was a reliable custodian for Newcastle over the years, prior to a cruciate ligament injury which he picked up back in 2015.

Since, the Dutch international has been unable to force his way back into the team at St. James’ Park – with Karl Darlow taking over the reins as the North East club’s number one stopper.

Krul was sent out on loan to AZ Alkmaar last season, and now Newcastle are willing to allow the 29-year-old to leave permanently.

Everton have been long-term admirers of Krul, with their interest in the goalkeeper first registered last summer.

At that time Everton were unable to get a deal over the line, but they may have more luck this summer.

Ronald Koeman’s side still need to find a more reliable stopper than their current options – with Joel Robles and Maarten Stekelenburg both disappointing this season – and Krul would surely offer them that.

Although the arrival of the Dutchman may not be the most exciting transfer, he could be available at a cut price deal.

And as a solid and reliable upgrade, signing Krul would allow Everton to relax about their goalkeeping situation, while still having plenty of funds to spend to renovate other areas of their squad.
