Everton are said to be looking towards the Championship for a new striker.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, Everton’s search for a striker has led them to the lower leagues, but they may have already missed out on their best option.

Ollie Watkins left Exeter City to join Brentford earlier this summer, and it seems the youngster may be the prized attacking talent in the lower league.

Watkins made a huge impact at League Two level last season, and has continued to impress in the Championship this time around.

Watkins has scored two goals in his first five appearances for the Bees, and looks at home in the second tier.

And, with Everton targeting youngsters regularly in recent times, he would have fitted in perfectly with Ronald Koeman’s transfer policy.

For now though, it seems that Watkins is very much settled at Brentford.

And Everton may regret not extending their search for a striker to the lower leagues earlier, when they had a chance to bring Watkins to Goodison Park.
