Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye has been linked with a move to PSG recently.

PSG were reportedly prepared to pay big for Gueye, but Everton wanted to keep hold of the combative midfielder.
And while the Toffees’ resistance to selling is admirable, given their ambition to improve, cashing in on him may actually have been a smart option.
Gueye is unquestionably a talented player, but he does have his weak points.
And if Everton did receive a big fee for him, they may just have been able to upgrade him.

The likes of Abdoulaye Doucoure and Wilmar Barrios have both been linked with moves to Goodison Park, and either could have stepped in and performed Gueye’s role to a similar standard.
Barrios would almost certainly have come for a cheaper price than Everton could have raised for Gueye.
And Everton should have looked at taking advantage of PSG’s interest and cashed in on the midfielder while they had a chance.
