Back in the summer, it seemed Everton were assembling a squad capable of challenging for a top-four finish this season, But just a few weeks on an that suggestion seems absurd, with the Toffees struggling at the wrong end of the table, struggling to score let alone win.
While a direct replacement for Romelu Lukaku was clearly needed, a lack of pace in wide areas has also come back to haunt Everton in recent matches, and in hindsight a move for Richarlison could have solved that particular issue.
As reported by the Guardian, the Brazilian moved to Watford in the last transfer window for £11.5million, and that is already proving to be a bargain.
The 20-year-old left winger has scored three goals and providing one assist in his first seven Premier League outings, including vital goals against both Swansea City and West Bromwich Albion in the space of a week.
Given his ability to play both out wide and up front, Richarlison could have been a brilliant addition for Everton, especially when you consider his signing would have been cheaper than practically every other deal they concluded this summer.
Instead Everton boss Ronald Koeman continues to struggle to get things right and one wonders if he will still be there in January when he has the chance to make changes to his current under-performing squad.
