Everton’s latest under-18 game hints that they may have a potential star of the future on their hands.
One of the gripes that Everton fans must surely have with Sam Allardyce is the fact that he seems so reluctant to play many of the exciting young players currently coming through at Goodison Park.
The Toffees have always had a brilliant cluster of youngsters threatening to push for a first-team spot, but Allardyce is yet to give any chances to those who were not already in first-team contention before his arrival earlier on in the campaign.
Nevertheless, Everton continue to produce extremely talented prospects, and perhaps after their latest under-18 game at the weekend, their next star of the future has potentially identified himself.
The Toffees thrashed Newcastle 7-0 at the weekend and four of those goals came from Korede Adedoyin. The 17-year-old forward demonstrated all of his talent to bag the goals, including showing a poacher’s instinct to score from close range and a wonderful running ability as he took on three Magpies players for his final goal.
What makes his performance all the more impressive is that U18 coach Paul Tait confirmed to the club’s official website after the game that he was being used in a new position for that particular game.
The performance takes Adedoyin’s tally to eight for the season having predominantly featured on the wing. And after that display at the weekend, Allardyce should arguably consider potentially throwing him on for a few minutes before the end of the season if he gets the chance.
