Leicester and West Brom are interested in Lokomotiv Moscow’s Solomon Kvirkvelia but should Everton maybe enter the race?

Sam Allardyce has made signing a new centre-back a priority in the January transfer window, with Crystal Palace’s James Tomkins reported by the Sun to be his potential first signing.

Allardyce has had a positive impact since taking over as Everton manager on November 30, but wants to improve his defence with question marks over Michael Keane and Ashley Williams and captain Phil Jagielka now 35-years-old.

However, it is said that Tomkins would cost £20m, which seems a lot for a 28-year-old who went for half that when the Eagles signed him from West Ham United in the summer of 2016.

Yet if Allardyce is keen to recruit at the back then should he consider Lokomotiv Moscow star Solomon Kvirkvelia, who has been impressing in the Russian Premier League this season?

The Sun also reports that Leicester City and West Bromwich Albion are keeping tabs on Kvirkvelia, who has helped Lokomotiv to the top of the table with an eight-point gap over second-placed Zenit St Petersburg with ten games to go.

The towering 25-year-old is a physical presence who is believed to be ideally suited to English football and could help inject some energy into an aging Toffees backline.
