Everton will be looking to add players of only the highest quality to their ranks in the summer.

As Chelsea’s Cesc Fabregas continues to get overlooked by Antonio Conte, the 29-year-old Spaniard must be wondering what he has to do to earn a regular starting berth under the Italian.

He has made 21 appearances in all competitions for the Blues so far this term, with just 10 of those being starts, and he has racked up an impressive six assists and four goals.

The former Barcelona man is still quite clearly capable of playing at the very highest level, which makes his regular omission from the Chelsea starting line-up all the more baffling.

The basic fact of the matter, however, is that Conte is a pragmatic coach, and he prefers the determination and positional discipline of N’Golo Kante and Nemanja Matic over the creative flair of Fabregas.

The 29-year-old midfielder would be ideal for Everton though, and would surely flourish under the more attack-minded Ronald Koeman.

Fabregas would be the ideal accompaniment for the more defence-minded Idrissa Gueye and Gareth Barry as part of a midfield trio, or he could be deployed further forward in the number 10 role, slotted in just behind Romelu Lukaku, or whoever Koeman’s main striker is for the start of next season.

In the summer, the 105-capped Spain international will still have two years remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge, so it will likely take a fairly substantial offer to tempt Chelsea into selling, although if he is not part of Conte’s future plans, a compromise in value would surely be met.

The experience Fabregas has of playing at the highest level, and his proven track record of winning major honours would be a massive asset to the Everton squad, and he could prove to be the difference in regards to their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League.

Surely a move for the Spaniard would be a no-brainer for Koeman, if he truly wants to take his club forward.
