West Ham United have a new manager while Everton are on the look-out for their own but could opt for a short-term fix.
Everton and West Ham United both headed into the international break in search of a new manager and, while the Hammers have appointed David Moyes until the end of the season, the Toffees’ search continues.
So how about a bizarre but possible chain of events that ultimately sees Moyes back at Goodison Park?
After all, the former Everton, Sunderland and Manchester United boss was instantly branded a risk when he was given a short-term deal at the London Stadium, and that could backfire on West Ham if he keeps them in the Premier League with time to spare before moving on next summer.
Everton currently have David Unsworth in charge in a caretaker capacity, and the recent comeback victory against Watford suggested that he had backing of the players even if it took him a while to record his first victory.
It would be a massive risk if Everton stuck with Unsworth, even when you consider the former defender’s passion for the club, but if that happens the Toffees could then consider Moyes in time for next season.
Of course if Everton were that keen on their former gaffer they could have appointed him in the first place. However, if he can transform West Ham’s faltering fortunes he could rejuvenate his own battered reputation in the process.
It is unlikely, perhaps all but impossible, but this is football and stranger things have happened…
