The Leeds United centre-back could be a fantastic addition to the Everton back-line.
Leeds manager Garry Monk talks to Pontus Jansson
Whites defender Pontus Jansson has really impressed for Garry Monk’s side this season, and unfortunately for Leeds, his fine performances have not gone unnoticed.
A whole host of Premier League clubs are reportedly interested in signing the Swede, including Southampton (Sky Sports), Tottenham and Liverpool (Kvallsposten).
The Sun report that the 26-year-old will complete a permanent £3.5 million move to Elland Road in the summer, but their chances of keeping hold of him after that will depend on whether they manage to gain promotion to the Premier League.
And if they are not successful in reaching the top flight, Everton should consider entering the race to sign the 6ft 5in centre-back.
The Toffees desperately need to bring some younger defenders into the club this summer, with Ashely Williams and Phil Jagielka entering the twilight of their careers.
Everton manager Ronald Koeman
And with Jansson’s stature and quality, he would surely slot into Ronald Koeman’s side seamlessly.
The former Malmo star has made 32 Championship appearances for the West Yorkshire outfit this term, and has played a major part in his side’s impressive season, helping them to the third best defensive record in the division.
He is strong in the air, but his ability on the ball often goes under the radar, and he would be ideally suited to Koeman’s preferred style of playing out from the back.
With so many top clubs interested in securing the Leeds man’s services, however, it will be quite the challenge to tempt him into a move to Goodison Park this summer.
