The Dutchmen worked with each other at Feyenoord.
Stefan De Vrij celebrates
Lazio defender Stefan de Vrij is being linked with big moves away from the Italian capital this summer. Eurosport recently reported that the Dutchman even has a verbal agreement with Manchester United, with Chelsea and AC Milan also keen – with a fee of €35 million (£30 million).
Back in January, Sport Mediaset reported that Lazio are well aware they may lose the Dutchman in the summer, with a fee of £52 million being reported.
So, should Everton break the bank for his services?
The latter fee would make the 24-year-old the club’s record signing. However, if Everton really want to start challenging the Premier League’s elite, they need to tighten up their at times leaky defence.
Their centre-backs are ageing and Ramiro Funes Mori is an inconsistent operator. The Argentine could even play a role in any deal for de Vrij. As reported by the Liverpool Echo last summer, Lazio are keen on the player, so a swap deal could take a big chunk off any price-tag.
Everton’s Ramiro Funes Mori looks dejected
Everton boss Ronald Koeman knows de Vrij well, having worked with him at Feyenoord and will know the big impact he might have on the Everton first-team for years to come.
The Toffees should really consider breaking the bank for this signature.
