Ramiro Funes Mori could play for Argentina before he has played for Everton after a year out with injury.

Ramiro Funes Mori could play for Argentina before playing for Everton after spending almost a year on the sidelines with a knee injury.

Funes Mori has turned out for the Under-23s as the defender continues his return to full fitness, but is yet to take to the pitch for the first team.

Yet despite having not featured competitively for around a year, the 26-year-old has been called up for international duty by his country for upcoming friendlies with Italy (March 23) and Spain (March 27).

The Toffees only have two more fixtures themselves before that break from domestic action, hosting Brighton and Hove Albion this Saturday (March 10) before travelling to Stoke City a week later, both in the Premier League.

Manager Sam Allardyce has been cautious with Funes Mori despite the player himself declaring he was fit to play and arguably there should be some concerns at Goodison Park about the centre-back linking up with Argentina.

This may be made all the worse by the fact that the South American actually suffered the knee injury that kept him out for 12 months while playing internationally in March of last year.
