Should Everton and Newcastle revisit interest in Vincent Aboubakar?

The Porto hitman would be a wonderful acquisition for both Everton and Newcastle United.

Toffees boss Ronald Koeman already finds himself under intense pressure at Goodison Park, following his side’s extremely underwhelming start to their campaign, both home and abroad.

The Dutchman will surely already be looking at potential transfer targets for January, as he looks to address some of the probems that have been hampering his side’s progress so far this term.

One particular area of concern for Koeman will be his forward department, with Everton’s woeful tally of just four goals scored in seven Premier League outings thus far being the joint third worst in the division.

With this in mind, the addition of an accomplished striker will surely feature highly on the Blues manager’s agenda this winter.

One potential option for Everton could be Cameroon international Vincent Aboubakar, who was a target for the Merseyside outfit way back in the summer of 2016, according to the Daily Mail.

The 25-year-old has just signed a new four-year deal with Porto, with a buy-out clause of €50 million (£45.1 million) inserted, as confirmed by popular football magazine FourFourTwo, but that figure actually represents fantastic value in the current market, and the Toffees should not hesitate to make their move.

Everton are not the only club who would benefit from having a forward of Aboubakar’s calibre amongst their ranks, however.

Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez is desperate to strengthen his attacking options, and the Cameroonian ace would be the ideal addition to the Spaniard’s squad.

It is debatable whether the Toon could stretch to the £45.1 million needed to prise him away from Porto, though, whereas Everton would easily be able to afford that amount.

At the age of just 25 though, Aboubakar has plenty of years ahead of him with which to improve even further still, so the buy-out clause in his contract will surely be well worth meeting, and both Everton and Newcastle should do all that they can to sign him either in January or next summer.
