Mauricio Pochettino has some difficult selection decisions to make for Tottenham.
Dele Alli has won the PFA Young player of the year award on each of the past two occasions and there is little doubt about the talent that the England international possesses.
However, of late Alli has been far from at his best as he has produced some underwhelming performances and has lacked the sharpness that usually characterises his displays.
Although he managed to provide an assist in the 5-1 thrashing of Stoke City last weekend, Alli was again rather disappointing overall and it is perhaps time for him to be given a short spell out of the starting lineup, which could well give him extra motivation to succeed thereafter as he looks to provide a reminder of his quality.
Tottenham have several options to choose from in midfield and attack and if Alli was left out of the starting lineup for tonight’s Premier League game at home to Brighton and Hove Albion it would give Erik Lamela an opportunity to impress.
Lamela has been working his way back to full sharpness after 13 months out through injury and would relish the opportunity to start against Brighton and show manager Mauricio Pochettino that he can quickly re-establish himself as a regular in the side.
Alli, meanwhile, may well benefit from being left out before returning to the starting lineup against Manchester City at the weekend.
