Sunderland have struggled this season, and former Everton star Leon Osman could be just the man to help guide them through this tricky spell.
Sunderland manager David Moyes
Sunderland have made a stuttering start to their Premier League campaign under new boss David Moyes, and seem to be totally devoid of any leaders on the pitch, after one draw and two losses has left them languishing in 19th place in the table.
The Black Cats take on Moyes’ former club Everton tonight, and it is a former Toffee who the Wearsiders should target in the hope of improving their performances.
Leon Osman is available as a free agent after he was released from Everton this summer upon the expiration of his contract at Goodison Park.
Leon Osman enjoyed a stellar career with Everton
Moyes’ side have look disorganised and desperately short of experienced characters, especially in the midfield area.
Osman, despite being 35-years-old, plays with a high intensity that defies his years, and would bring a certain level of energy and know-how to the Sunderland side.
He made 432 appearances during his 16-year career with the Blues, and would fit into David Moyes’ style instantly, having played under the Scotsman for 11 years at Goodison Park.
Could Moyes to another of his former players to help improve his side’s performances
Osman could fill a variety of roles for Moyes, and although he is more renowned for being a forward thinking midfielder, his advancing years could see him slot into a deeper role, from where he could dictate the pace of play with his impressive array of passing.
If a move for Osman did eventually come to fruition, he would join another former Everton star in Steven Pienaar at the Stadium of Light.
Moyes obviously likes working with players who he knows he can trust, and Osman would most certainly fit into that category.
Steven Pienaar made the move to Sunderland earlier this summer
