Glasgow Rangers should consider trying to bring Charlie Adam back to Ibrox this summer as Stoke City have recently bolstered their midfield options.

Charlie Adam may have played down the idea of returning to Rangers when he was asked about a potential Ibrox switch by Herald Scotland back in May, but perhaps Stoke City’s most recent signing may leave him reconsidering his own future.

Last month, Adam told Herald Scotland that while he loved his time with the Gers, he is happy with the Potters and hopes to extend his deal beyond the end of next season.

Interestingly however, the midfielder added that you can never say never in football (via Herald Scotland), so perhaps Darren Fletcher’s arrival at the Bet365 Stadium should tempt the Gers to make an enquiry about Adam’s availability.

Fletcher has arrived at Stoke from Premier League rivals West Brom following the expiration of his contract at the Hawthorns.

With Fletcher’s arrival hinting that Mark Hughes has plans to use him fairly regularly, Adam may be wondering whether he will be able to hold down a place in a team he played for 24 times in the top flight this past season, especially with the likes of Joe Allen and Glenn Whelan also competing for a spot.

With that in mind, Rangers should perhaps consider making an enquiry in the hope that the bid tempts Hughes into potentially letting him move on for the sake of his career.

Despite Ryan Jack already being signed, the Gers could undoubtedly do with a player of Adam’s quality dictating games in the middle of the park.

And while he may have previously virtually ruled out a return at this stage of his career, his thoughts regarding a move may be different now that Fletcher is ready to rival him for a place in the team.
