Glasgow Rangers saw Danny Wilson swap Ibrox for Major League Soccer during the January transfer window.

When Danny Wilson began to be seriously linked with a move away from Rangers during the January transfer window, it was a major surprise to many of the Ibrox faithful that the centre-back could have been about to leave for a move to Major League Soccer.
Wilson had arguably been Rangers’ best performing centre-back from the moment that Graeme Murty stepped into interim charge for a second time, so the deal certainly caught many off guard. The Daily Record’s suggestion in February that Wilson and the Rangers hierarchy have differing accounts of the events that led to the move has not exactly helped with the confusion.

Regardless of whether Wilson wanted to leave or felt forced out by the club, he would surely now be forgiven for rueing the fact that he is no longer with the Scottish Premiership side given his new club’s form in contrast with what is going on with the Gers.
Colorado Rapids now find themselves bottom of the Western Conference having lost their last seven games. The 26-year-old had featured prominently for the team, but has only played 45 minutes in each of the last two fixtures. It is hardly proving to be the spell that he would have been hoping for when he left Scotland.

Meanwhile, at Ibrox, Rangers are now preparing for life under Steven Gerrard. Wilson was actually a teammate of Gerrard’s for three years at Liverpool and lined up alongside the Englishman for his one Premier League start for the Reds.
That prior knowledge of Wilson may have helped Gerrard following his appointment, especially at a time when the Gers appear to be so short of quality centre-back options in their first-team.
If Wilson was indeed told that he was free to leave and had no prior intention of moving on from Ibrox, then he may not be particularly disappointed that his old club are starting this new chapter that he could have potentially played a key role in had he stayed as he was not going to be in the plans anyway with his Rangers contract expiring this summer.
But if it was Wilson who pushed for a fresh challenge in January, then perhaps he may be wondering whether he has made a serious mistake with his new side bottom of their table and the Gers potentially on the cusp of a hugely exciting era.
