Newly appointed Watford head coach Javi Gracia has made resolving the future of captain Troy Deeney one of his top priorities since taking charge, according to the Sun.

Gracia succeeded Marco Silva as boss following his sacking after the 2-0 Premier League defeat to Leicester City and wants to sit down with Deeney to discover whether the striker can rediscover his form at Vicarage Road, or needs to leave.

For the first time since the Hornets’ promotion back to the top flight of English football in 2015 the 29-year-old has struggled to make an impression on the first team this season and has scored just three times in 17 appearances in all competitions.

There is still interest in Deeney, though, with both Newcastle United and West Bromwich Albion keen on a forward who is believed to be valued at around £20m.

Yet should Chelsea take a closer look at the Englishman as their search for a target-man, as reported by ESPN, continues following interest in West Ham United duo Marko Arnautovic and Andy Carroll, Crystal Palace’s Christian Benteke, Edin Dzeko of Roma and even Stoke City attacker Peter Crouch.

Blues manager Antonio Conte wants a strong presence to lead the line at Stamford Bridge and provide competition for struggling club record signing Alvaro Morata, while Michy Batshuayi is expected to be sent out on loan.
