Should Celtic try to strengthen chances of Lewis Morgan deal by offering Cardiff summer signing?

Celtic and Cardiff City both want St Mirren’s Lewis Morgan, so perhaps the Scottish Premiership side should offer the Bluebirds a former target.

According to a report from the Daily Mail back in September, Celtic are one of a host of sides interested in signing St Mirren starlet Lewis Morgan, who has made a fantastic start to the season.

Morgan has scored five and contributed two assists in the Scottish Championship already, and the Mail reported that the Hoops were joined in the running for his signature by Swansea City, Scottish Premiership rivals Rangers, and Cardiff City.

While Brendan Rodgers may be relying on selling the Hoops project to Morgan to try and get a deal across the line, perhaps there is something that Celtic could do to try and boost their chances ever so slightly.

Jonny Hayes has endured a difficult time since arriving at Parkhead from Aberdeen in the summer, and is struggling to get into the side with Patrick Roberts returning to the club for another loan spell before the deadline.

Hayes may well turn things around and prove to be a success with Celtic as he was with the Dons previously, but with the Irishman now 30, perhaps Rodgers will plan to push him even further down the pecking order if they win the race for Morgan.

So perhaps Celtic should reach out to one of the sides that also want Morgan and suggest to them that they could land Hayes in January.

Wales Online reported in August that Cardiff had wanted Hayes in the summer, so by offering Neil Warnock the chance to land him in the next window, perhaps the Bluebirds’ interest in Morgan may diminish slightly, leaving the path slightly clearer for the Hoops to target the youngster.

Cardiff look set to be involved in a promotion battle in the Championship this season, so having that proven, established winger in their ranks may prove appealing to Warnock. And if it helps Celtic land Morgan in some way, then bringing an end to Hayes’ Hoops career before it has really begun may be a ruthless decision that Rodgers needs to consider.
