Newcastle United are ready to let Achraf Lazaar leave, so surely Celtic should consider a move.
With Emilio Izaguirre moving on this summer, Celtic would perhaps be wise to target a new left-back ahead of the coming campaign to provide Kieran Tierney with some support.
One player who may perhaps be ideal for the Hoops given his status at his current club is Newcastle United full-back Achraf Lazaar.
Achraf Lazaar
The Chronicle recently reported that the Magpies were ready to let the 25-year-old leave St James’ Park this summer ahead of their return to the Premier League, and he may therefore, be an ideal target for Brendan Rodgers to consider during the coming weeks.
Not only would his apparent availability surely boost the Bhoys’ hopes of landing the Morocco international for a low fee – thus leaving plenty in the budget to strengthen in other areas if that is what Rodgers hopes to do – but he also has the experience to be an excellent understudy for Tierney.
While he struggled to make an impression following his move to England last summer, he has previously played regularly in Serie A for Palermo, so clearly has plenty of quality.
In Tierney, Rodgers undoubtedly has the division’s best full-back at his disposal – but having perhaps Jonny Hayes as his back-up option is surely a gamble not worth taking especially if they hope to make a greater impression in the Champions League during the coming season, and thus, moving for Lazaar may be a smart move at this stage.
