Celtic should consider rivalling Derby County for Everton forward Ademola Lookman’s signature if he is available on loan this summer.

According to the Daily Mail, Derby County are keen to target Everton forward Ademola Lookman this summer. It would certainly be a surprise if the Toffees were willing to sanction letting the teenager leave on loan this summer, but if they do decide to give a temporary exit the green light, Celtic should join the race and target an ambitious deal.

Lookman only arrived at Goodison Park during the most recent January window, signing for a fee potentially worth £11 million (via Sky Sports), and while he only made a handful of appearances during his first few months with the club, there will surely be a large number of Everton fans who will be urging Ronald Koeman to reject any loan bids and instead keep the 19-year-old around as he clearly has the potential to make an impact during the coming season.

But if Koeman decides that Lookman would be better off getting some more regular first-team football under his belt, then the Hoops should surely make their own bid.

Lookman has shown that he has the potential to be an extremely special talent, and playing in a Celtic side that dominates most weeks domestically would surely give him the opportunity to work on his game and build more confidence.

Some Toffees fans may feel that moving to the Scottish Premiership may not be the best move for his career given the general conception surrounding the overall quality of the division, but Brendan Rodgers can point to the number of quality players that have shone in the Premier League almost immediately after moving from Celtic in recent years – including the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Victor Wanyama – as evidence that the conception is not entirely accurate.

And having played such an important role in Patrick Roberts’ development, Everton would surely be foolish to not consider a bid from Celtic if the Hoops did make a move, especially as they could hand him the chance to play in the Champions League during the coming campaign.

And with Lookman capable of playing right across the forward line, he would surely be the kind of addition that Rodgers should be targeting towards the end of the window to give the Bhoys the best chance of replicating and perhaps building on their achievements of last season.
