Should Celtic sell Scott Sinclair to fund Odsonne Edouard move?

Celtic forward Scott Sinclair is attracting attention from two Premier League sides ahead of the summer.

According to a report from the Daily Mail earlier this weekend, Celtic should brace themselves for bids from Bournemouth and Brighton for Scott Sinclair this summer.

A brief look at Sinclair’s record for the Hoops suggests that Brendan Rodgers would be making a major mistake allowing the 29-year-old to leave Parkhead at the end of the season. But perhaps, the next transfer window may prove to be the right time to let the forward return to the Premier League.

Despite the impressive goals return this season, Sinclair has not been at his best – and with the Daily Mail reporting that he has just two years left on his contract, selling at the end of the current campaign may make a lot of sense, especially if any sale helps fund a move for Odsonne Edouard.

Edouard is currently on loan at Parkhead from Paris Saint-Germain and is starting to show his potential after a fairly quiet start to life with the Scottish Premiership champions. A sumptuous winner in the Old Firm game at Ibrox recently ensured that he won many of his remaining doubters over.

In comments reported by the Daily Record earlier this week, Rodgers confirmed that the Bhoys have agreed a clause that will allow them to sign Edouard permanently, but insisted that the figure was not £7 million.

Without knowing what the clause is, it is difficult to say for certain whether Celtic should activate it in the coming months. But what is clear is that Edouard has made a major impact in the last few games, and keeping him beyond this season may prove to be an inspired move in years to come if he kicks on.

And if selling a recently-underwhelming Sinclair this summer helps make that happen, then perhaps it is time that Rodgers lets the Englishman leave if the Cherries and Seagulls come calling.
