Celtic arguably need to sign a new goalkeeper at the end of the season, and Chelsea-owned stopper Jamal Blackman would be a good target to consider.
When Brendan Rodgers considers which areas of his Celtic squad require the most attention at the end of the campaign, it is highly possible that his goalkeeper options will be an area that is causing him particular concern.
Craig Gordon and Dorus De Vries should arguably have major question marks over their futures and there are no guarantees, it seems, that loanee Scott Bain will be at Parkhead next term.
Bain’s recent heroics may make him a player that Hoops fans would like to see remain with the club next season, but Rodgers should have a number of targets and should consider freshening up both his first choice and their understudy.
So perhaps Celtic should be alerted by a recent report from the Daily Mirror (20/03; page 49) which suggested that Sheffield United are eyeing a permanent move for Jamal Blackman.
The Mirror suggested that Chelsea want £1.5 million for the stopper, who has enjoyed a very promising year at Bramall Lane, helping the Blades spend much of the campaign around the top six in the second tier.
Celtic should arguably consider a move for the 24-year-old this summer. He is a player that Rodgers will surely be aware of as he was the youth coach at the time that Blackman joined the Blues, so perhaps he will relish the chance to work with the Northern Irishman at Parkhead.
He may have played this season at Sheffield United, but Celtic can offer the stopper the opportunity to be a part of a trophy-winning side that also has a brilliant chance of securing another Champions League campaign for next season.
Blackman is a keeper with real potential, and for £1.5 million, Celtic should not hesitate to try and make a deal happen this summer.
