Celtic reportedly wanted Shane Long in the summer, and should consider a move next month.

It would surprise no-one if Celtic’s priority during the January transfer window was signing a new striker with Odsonne Edouard set to be Brendan Rodgers’ only senior option for the time-being.
Hopefully, Leigh Griffiths manages to tackle his problems off the pitch and is soon back doing what he does best on it. But his absence could increase Rodgers’ need to sign a new goalscorer.
One player that the Hoops wanted in the summer was Shane Long, according to The Sun on Sunday (26/08; page 61). And they should arguably consider a fresh move next month.
Long does not boast a good goalscoring record for the Saints, but he is a forward who provides energy and creates numerous openings for his teammates to exploit.

With Celtic’s midfield in the goalscoring form that they are in right now, someone who leads the line in a selfless manner could be a fantastic addition. And perhaps the Bhoys will have more luck if they move this time around.

It remains to be seen which players are shown the door, but perhaps an appealing offer for £12 million signing Long (via BBC Sport) could be enough to convince the Saints chief to sanction a sale.
And while everyone wishes Celtic and Griffiths were not in the position they now find themselves, signing Long could be a good way for the Hoops to bounce back on the pitch to the major blow.
