Celtic were linked with Marvin Johnson last summer, and should perhaps consider a fresh move for the 27-year-old

According to a report from The Scottish Sun from March last year, Celtic were amongst 30 teams to have a look at Marvin Johnson ahead of the summer transfer window as Brendan Rodgers seemingly looked to strengthen his options down the left flank.

Johnson enjoyed a superb year with Oxford United, scoring a handful of goals and providing a number of assists for the League One side. Ultimately, the winger would end up joining Middlesbrough in the Championship.

However, after a difficult year following his £3 million move, the Daily Mail is now reporting that Boro are ready to cash in on Johnson – and they are aware that they will have to take a financial hit on the 27-year-old if they hope to offload him this summer.

So perhaps Celtic should consider making a fresh move during this window in the hope that they can land the player for a significantly lower price than what they would have paid last year.

Johnson would add depth to the left-back position. Kieran Tierney is the best left-back in the country, but Rodgers probably does not quite have the depth he would like in that area of the pitch following Emilio Izaguirre’s departure last year.

And with Johnson more than comfortable playing anywhere down the left flank, particularly in an advanced position, he would also add quality to a number of positions in Celtic’s squad, which could be extremely beneficial as they look to improve further after two superb years under Rodgers.
