According to a recent report from The Sun on Sunday (print edition; 5th November 2017; page 59), Aston Villa may consider letting Henri Lansbury leave Villa Park in January as Steve Bruce looks to bolster his transfer kitty ahead of the business end of the campaign.

Lansbury has endured a difficult time since moving to Villa. And while there is a long way to go before January and it would actually be a surprise if Bruce did decide to let him go, the report may just give some clubs some encouragement to test the Villans’ resolve to keep hold of him.

One club who should perhaps reach out to Villa with a loan bid is Celtic – as the Hoops were keen on signing Lansbury during the window in which he joined the Championship side.

The Daily Record reported at the time that the Bhoys were hoping to sign the midfielder on a pre-contract basis, but obviously they ultimately missed out.

Brendan Rodgers however, should arguably look to make a fresh move in the hope that something can be arranged with Villa.

Lansbury has the quality to make a major contribution to Celtic’s midfield, especially as they will probably have a Europa League knockout campaign to contend with after Christmas, so could do with some additional depth in the middle of the park to give them the best chance of maintaining their domestic dominance while also continuing to make an impact on the continental stage.

If Lansbury is not in Bruce’s plans by January, letting him leave temporarily may be a smart move to enable him to try and build his confidence up – and Parkhead may be an ideal destination to build that belief as former Villa forward Scott Sinclair has shown.

Villa may have no plans to let Lansbury leave by the time January arrives, but with Rodgers clearly seeing something in the midfielder previously, he would surely be wise to try his luck in the next window in the hope that some form of deal could be agreed.
