Lauded as a wonderkid under David Moyes at Manchester United, Januzaj’s star faded quickly, hitting rock bottom with a woeful spell at Sunderland.
Last summer Celtic were linked with a deal, with the Press and Journal reporting they were weighing up a move for the winger at £8 million.
Celtic chose not to do so, bringing back Patrick Roberts on loan instead.
Another loan for winger Charly Musonda did not work out, while Roberts missed most of the season with an injury.
Januzaj signed with Real Sociedad, where he went onto have a solid season, scoring four times and providing six assists.
Crucially he earned his place back in Belgium’s World Cup squad, and showed last night what he is capable of.
A wonderful curling shot gave Belgium the win against England, with Januzaj showing the world just how good he can be.
Januzaj is just getting restarted, and the goal will do him the world of good.
Celtic may well wonder whether they should have taken the gamble on the winger last summer.
