But with a reported wage of £80,000-a-week [Daily Star], the Bhoys are perhaps facing a losing battle to land the England international – especially with several sides south of the border also said to be circling.

His comfort in possession could be of particular use to Celtic in Europe.

It’s hard to see Mooy breaking into Manchester City’s team despite his Huddersfield displays and a Premier League move seems to most likely outcome, be it permanently on loan. The 26-year-old could fetch around £10 million according to some reports, although his wages should be considerably less than Delph’s, having arrived from Australian football.

With last year’s Champions League money to play with, it would perhaps be little surprise to see Celtic splash out ahead of the coming campaign. A low-end eight-figure fee is something they could probably stretch to if a loan deal cannot be agreed, especially if his wage demands are reasonable. However, it will likely come down to who else is interested. Most Premier League sides have the resources to blow the Bhoys out of the water on both counts.
