Celtic have recently been linked with Hibernian midfielder John McGinn, but face Premier League competition for his signature.
At the start of the January transfer window, the Daily Mail reported that Celtic and West Ham were both eyeing a move for Hibernian midfielder John McGinn as he continues to win a number of admirers for his performances for Neil Lennon’s side.
McGinn – who Lennon rated as being worth £5 million last summer, according to The Scottish Sun – has been hugely impressive for Hibs and now has a handful of caps for Scotland to his name and is being seen by many as being the man who could fill the void that Scott Brown will leave behind in the national team’s midfield.
It is no surprise therefore, that Celtic have recently been linked, and it would also be no surprise if the Hoops went back in for the midfielder at the end of the campaign – but perhaps they will need an ace up their sleeve if the Premier League side also come calling again.
And perhaps Brendan Rodgers has the perfect option in the form of Scott Allan, who made himself a hero amongst the Easter Road faithful in his most recent appearance for Hibs by scoring a wonderful goal in the win over Hearts.
Allan joined Hibs on loan in January as part of the deal that saw Scott Bain head to Parkhead, and, in comments reported by The Scotsman, Rodgers recently hinted that he would be open to the idea of letting him leave for Lennon’s side on a permanent basis.
If Hibs are keen to sign Allan permanently, Celtic should absolutely look to use that interest to try and get McGinn to come the other way. The Mail reported in January that Hibs were already somewhat resigned to potentially losing the 23-year-old, so getting a decent player in return may make their Scottish Premiership rivals feel that they are getting the best deal possible and may boost Celtic’s hopes of finally getting McGinn through the door at Parkhead.
