Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic side have a number of promising prospects already breaking through.

Scottish prospect Ryan Gauld has suggested to the Scottish Sun that he could leave Sporting Lisbon this summer.

Gauld moved to the Portuguese club back in 2014, after showing signs of promise for Dundee United.

However, the attacking midfielder is yet to really make an impact in Lisbon.

Gauld has not made a senior appearance for the capital club since his first year at the club, and he admits that an exit could be possible this summer.

He said: “I’ve not been told anything, as of yet, about next season. Just that I’ve to go back for pre-season like everybody else.

“I suppose it will depend on how that goes. They’ll make a decision after that based on what’s going to be best for my development.”

It means that now could be the ideal time for Celtic to bring back Gauld to his homeland.

Gauld was once built up as Scotland’s golden boy, and if Celtic could unlock that potential once again he would be a quality addition.

The midfielder is still only 21, so he has plenty of time to develop.

And sealing the signature of one of Scotland’s most promising youngsters could never be seen as a bad thing for Celtic.

Although signing Gauld would be a gamble, given his lack of first-team action to date, it could pay off massively for Celtic – and it is a transfer they should seriously think about this summer.
