Should Celtic look into signing West Bromwich Albion’s James Morrison?
Celtic might well need a central midfielder this summer.
Brendan Rodgers will do well to keep Tom Rogic at Celtic beyond this summer, while Stuart Armstrong may also find himself the subject of transfer speculation after nearly leaving last year.
With that in mind, Rodgers probably should be planning ahead and could the Northern Irishman be tempted by West Bromwich Albion midfielder James Morrison?
Morrison, who has 46 caps for Scotland, will be available to leave West Brom on a free transfer this summer and it seems unlikely that the Hoops will find a better bargain.
The 31-year-old hasn’t kicked a ball for the Baggies since September due to injury, but Albion, who look doomed for relegation from the Premier League, expect him back before the end of the season, according to The Express and Star.
He is unlikely to earn a new contract, however, and the lack of price-tag means that Morrison – once valued at £6.75 million according to Transfermarkt – represents something of a no-brainer for Celtic, given his class.
Morrison, a Rangers fan, might have reservations over joining the Gers’ Old Firm enemies, but at the same time it can’t be easy to turn down a Bhoys side who will more than likely have Champions League football on offer again next season.
According to The Birmingham Mail, Rodgers wanted him at Parkhead in August of 2016, only for the Premier League outfit to deny him a deadline-day move, but the Celtic might just be able to pull it off this time around if the manager remains interested.
