Should Celtic use tomorrow’s visit of Dundee to take a look at Steven Caulker?

Celtic host Dundee at Parkhead tomorrow as Brendan Rodgers’s side look to move one step closer to securing a seventh successive Premiership title.

One of the men charged with the task of thwarting the red-hot Hoops will be a man who Rodgers knows well and an impressive performance should make the Northern Irishman consider signing him this summer.

Steven Caulker has only been with Dundee for a matter of months after leaving QPR in December but he has already proven himself an impressive acquisition, culminating in speculation about a £1 million move to a Scandanavian team today, as reported by The Evening Telegraph.

The Dens Park side rejected the offer, but Celtic have the resources and the prestige to make a move materialise this summer and, going by Caulker’s previous comments about Rodgers, he might just consider it.

The 26-year-old, who once joined Rodgers’s Swansea City side on loan, told Sky Sports in 2012: “The boys love the sessions that he puts on every day in training and he brings so much energy and enthusiasm into the club every day. There is no doubt that he is a great manager and he deserves all the plaudits that come his way.”

Celtic have plenty of centre-back options for now, but that could change in the summer amid doubts over Jozo Simunovic and Dedryck Boyata’s long-term future in Glasgow.

Marvin Compper, at 32 years of age, isn’t going to be a long-term option if either of those two move on, while Team Talk also reported today that Kristoffer Ajer is attracting interest from the Premier League.

It is possible that the Bhoys will need two new centre-halves during the summer transfer window, and Caulker, who has one cap and one goal for England, would be a fantastic addition.
